Position : Francophone Africa Regional Manager.
Location : Dakar (Senegal) preferred, though other EJF offices would be considered for exceptional candidates.
Contract type : Permanent following probation.
Salary range : Competitive, dependent upon location and experience

About the role
As Francophone Africa Regional Manager and in close cooperation with our offices across Europe, Africa and Asia, you will play a key role in developing and implementing our work on key issues, in particular as regards the fight against illegal fishing and the need for greater transparency in local, regional and global fisheries.
In particular, you will initially be responsible for managing EJF’s anti-illegal fishing programme in Cameroon and Senegal. Over time, you will also coordinate EJF’s research, policy and advocacy work on ocean protection in other areas of francophone Africa as these develop.
This will entail regular travel and building close partnerships with national and community-based civil society groups in each country as well as high-level discussions with government officials.
You will need demonstrable, global experience working on relevant issues across multiple cultures and a professional history in campaigns or international development.
A personal and professional commitment to EJF’s Mission and Values, alongside a strong sense of ethics, is essential.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and support advocacy and community fisheries initiatives with a strong emphasis on attention to detail, factual accuracy, and intellectual rigour.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with international partners, stakeholders, and contacts across diverse cultural and geographic contexts to achieve programme objectives.
- Provide inspirational leadership and effective management of individuals and teams operating across multiple countries, cultures, and settings.
- Deliver programme outcomes to the highest professional standards, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with campaign and organisational priorities.
- Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines simultaneously, prioritising workloads effectively in response to evolving programme needs.
- Work collaboratively within international and multicultural teams while also demonstrating initiative, accountability, and the ability to work independently.
- Undertake national and international travel, including at short notice and for extended periods, to support programme delivery and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate across global teams to ensure programmes achieve meaningful, sustainable impact in implementation countries.
- Make informed and timely decisions in challenging situations, including managing risks and supporting the safety and security of staff, partners, and stakeholders.
- Oversee and support the effective use of visual materials to document environmental and human rights issues and communicate compelling evidence-based narratives.
Essential skills and experience
- Demonstrable commitment to EJF’ vision, mission and values and a determination to change the world for the better
- A minimum of six years of relevant advocacy experience (NGOs, government, or international development).
- Experience managing staff to success.
- Ability to successfully and tactically manage relationships with partners and stakeholders.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills in French and English.
- Experience delivering projects or programmes to a high standard, within budget.
Desirable skills and experience
- Academic qualifications and/or working knowledge related to fisheries governance and Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing
- Relevant West African languages
- Experience of working in difficult environments/training in personal and situational security
